Indesign Toolkit - Links to handy tips, resources and inspiration for Indesign

Hello Students! As we move forward in the semester, Indesign will be used to compose many of the elements of our personal Portfolio's. Indesign is incredibly powerful for layout. If you come across a challenge while using it, look over these links below. There is information from the basics of opening and saving and doing set up for documents, as well as intermediate and advanced information and tutorials and a link to get inspired on layout ideas for your portfolio and a website that lets you search for pictures based on color.

Indesign Basics - Opening, saving and closing documents
Setting up and using the Library - Indesign contains a palette called the library, for saving and reusing repeated elements.
Setting Margins, Columns and Guides - Margins are important to have control over. Consider printing a book, the crease of the book center eats up page space, and you should make sure you text and images don't become unreadable because they are to tightly centered.
How To Create Paragraph Styles - Creating these "styles" in Indesign can simplify the task of formatting multiple pieces of text.
Insert Automatically Generated Page Numbers - If you have a multiple page document, you can edit the master page (to apply a global look) and add a page number generator that works automatically.

Image Search Based on Color - This great website lets you search based on the color you need. If you want a red picture, click on the red box in the palette. All the images are from Flickr and are released under the Creative Commons license (that means its ok for you to use it in your assignment).

20 Magazine Layouts for Inspiration - Check these out, notice the use of color, the emphasis on certain areas and the way contrast is used when placing text over a photo, as well as the differences between the typefaces used for headlines and the ones used for subtext.
