Hands on Intro to Photoshop

Hello class, today we covered an introduction to photoshop. We discussed:

 - Selecting an object in Illustrator vs Photoshop. Photoshop has two ways to select an object, you can select a boundary with the Marquee tool or select an object from the layer palette and move it with the move too.

- Using the Layers Palette is important, a new layer is like a new sheet of invisible paper on top of your photo or document.

- Never edit your original image, always make a copy in the Layers Palette first.

- Tools:
            • Move Tool, select a layer and use this tool to move an object
            • Marquee Tool, click and hold for Rectangle, Elliptical tools
            • Color, learn the difference between the foreground and background color on the color chip. Practice making an object and adding color.
            • Layers, remember to make a new layer for new objects, use the trashcan icon to delete a layer, you can also change transparency and color mode here.
            • Layer Styles, experiment with using different styles such as drop shadow and bevel
            • Text Tool, click once to make a new text layer and begin typing. Change size with the Character Palette.

- Photo Manipulation
            • How to apply a filter, we experimented with the artistic filters.
            • How to use the Erase Tool to edit our layer
            • History Palette, how to use this palette to step back through our actions to help us experiment.

Here is a quick guide to commonly used tools:
